Preschool : Our Preschool swim classes are ideal for giving young children confidence in the water
Child & Teen: Our swimming lessons follow the Swim England Learn to Swim framework (Stages 1-10). Lessons are taught from poolside. Water safety skills are taught in every stage. Within each stage there is a set of competencies that each swimmer must achieve confidently and consistently to progress to the next
Phoenix: Phoenix provides a ‘low level’ competitive training environment, for swimmers who are competent at all four strokes. Training sessions include Sets and pace work, starts, turns, endurance/stamina and sprint work
SEND: Specialised lessons for our swimmers with specific individual requirements and assessment needs
Rookie Lifesaving: Swimmers are assessed as part of the RLSS Rookie Lifeguard programme which teaches self rescue skills, rescue of others and first aid including CPR
Each Child must be accompanied by an adult in the water. The lesson is taught from poolside. Our young swimmers learn basic movement and water safety through songs and structured adult led activity. Swim England Discovery Duckling Badges are awarded in these classes

The lesson is taught by an instructor in the water. Our young swimmers further develop their water confidence, independent travel, floating and basic streamlining through constructive fun activities. Games and songs are still an important part of the session. Swim England Duckling Badges are awarded in these classes

Swimmers develop basic safety awareness, basic movement skills and water confidence skills in a structured class setting. Swimmers will learn and be assessed using flotation equipment, such as arm discs and floats.

Swimmers develop independent travel and streamlining, they are also introduced to aquatic breathing skills, floating and rotation. Travel must be maintained without feet on the floor, using a consistent and recognised leg kick. Teaching continues with use of aids however all travel must be achieved without the use of aids

Swimmers develop streamlining through push and glide, develop submersion, rotation and water safety skills. The distances travelled are extended to 10m on front and back. Aids maybe worn to practice but assessment is without aids

Swimmers perfect their leg kicks for all four strokes,further develop their understanding of buoyancy and push and glides. Sculling is introduced. Swim 10m (any stroke) adhering to Swim England Expected standards.
Water Safety Award 1 is achieved in this stage

Swimmers will develop their technique and learn the correct arm pulls for all four strokes, develop their skills in treading water, sculling and water safety. Handstands and somersaults are introduced

Swimmers learn how to prepare for exercise, develop an efficient technique (including coordination and breathing) for all four strokes and further develop surface dives and water safety skills.

Swimmers focus on fully developing all four swimming strokes, building stamina and improving diving skills.

Swimmers continue to increase strength and distance for each stroke. Competitive skills and training techniques are introduced including tumble turns with correct pullout, advanced diving and turnaround times . The Bronze Challenge Award is completed in Stage 8

Swimmers continue to increase distance and fitness, alongside correct starts, turns and finishes. The individual medley swim is introduced and the Silver Challenge Award is completed in Stage 9

A one hour session preparing swimmers for lifelong participation in the sport of swimming, swimmers will be able to start, turn and finish all 4 strokes to ASA standard. The Gold Challenge Award and Water Safety 3 Award is completed within Stage 10

Phoenix provides a ‘low level’ competitive environment, for swimmers who are competent in all four strokes. Training sessions are graded for junior, intermediate and senior squads and include Pacework, sets, starts, turns, endurance/stamina and sprint work , the sessions are designed to achieve measured progress in each swimmer, and aid them towards an understanding of training concepts

An introduction to saving yourself and saving others in and around water, including basic first aid and CPR skills. Rookie Lifeguard spans three stages - bronze, silver & gold

Specialised lessons for our swimmers with specific individual requirements and assessment needs. Lessons can be one to one, or small group, depending on ability and activity. Badges and certificates are awarded as part of our SEND swimming programme
SUNDAY
Every half hour between 4:00pm - 6:30pm
Swimmers will be supported by the teachers in the water and will be helped to lie back and float, be able to stand up confidently, blow bubbles and push & glide streamlined with support
For complete beginners, swimmers who are nervous of the water, may have had a scare in the past, cannot move around on their own in the pool, cannot place their face in the water
Swimmers will be supported in the water and will be helped to move independently, face in work will be encouraged and basic push and glides will be taught, independent movement will be encouraged
For swimmers who are happy in the water but cannot yet move around confidently without assistance
Swimmers will be encouraged to swim up to 20 metres without aids, basic backcrawl, breaststroke and front crawl will be taught, alongside new skills such as sculling and rotational movements
For swimmers who are able to swim a small distance independently and would like to learn the 3 basic swimming strokes
Swimmers will be helped to achieve a minimum of 20 metres of each stroke, a correct breathing pattern will be taught and new skills introduced: diving, treading water, feet first sculling and forward rolls
For swimmers who already have a basic understanding and knowledge of the 3 main strokes and would like to improve their stamina and technique over a longer distance
Swimmers will be encouraged to swim longer distances, butterfly will be introduced, correct starts and turns will be taught and the pace clock will be introduced. Some lifesaving skills will be taught
Sessions will vary between sprint and endurance work
For swimmers who would like to improve their fitness levels, would like to learn the correct dive and turn for each stroke, swimmers will already be able to confidently swim the 3 main strokes over at least 20 metres
Adult Lessons run: -
Our adult swimming lessons cater for all abilities, whether you are a complete beginner, want to build confidence in the water, refine your technique or improve your stamina
Swimming parties take place on a Saturday between 4.00pm - 6.00pm.
Parties cost £150 and your booking includes:
In the pool the lifeguard will supervise play with the mats, toys and balls. Numbers in the pool are limited to 25, which includes any adults accompanying the children. The number of adults in the pool is at your discretion but for safety, the more non or weak swimmers your party has, the higher the ratio of adults should be in the pool.

Swimming lessons are booked in 10 week blocks, at weeks 7, 8, & 9 in your block of 10 you will receive reminder emails to ‘top up’ for your next block of 10 lessons. You can top up online via the Home Portal, in person at the desk, or over the phone.
You can pay by Card, on line via the ‘Home Portal’, in person , or over the phone. Please note that cheques are no longer accepted
Our Home Portal enables you to track progress on line. You can see the outcomes for each stage and receive notification when badges/certificates are awarded. To register/activate home portal you will need your/your child's membership number, which can be found on their enrolment email and Date of Birth. You can add multiple members onto the same account.
This decision is entirely yours to make. At Bollington Health & Leisure we follow the Swim England 'Learn to Swim' Programme which is designed to ensure that swimmers are both competent swimmers and water safe. Swim England recommend that swimming lessons should be continued until your swimmer can:
