Squash: Involving Local Schools
At Bollington Health & Leisure we currently have a thriving Junior Section. It offers children from the ages of 4, right through to 18, the chance to learn and enjoy the world’s healthiest sport! Junior and ‘Grass Root’ participation is the key to any sports longevity, which is why we try to deliver a comprehensive junior program throughout the week here at the Leisure Centre.
We are in fact looking to further expand the coaching we offer; more specifically, the involvement of local schools who might want to offer Squash to their pupils.
Squash is a sport played in 185 countries around the globe, with an estimated 20-million players worldwide. However it is a sport that many children are not exposed to growing up. At Bollington Health and Leisure we firmly believe that offering as many opportunities to children as possible is the best way to inspire them and develop them as people. If children do not find or have these experiences at a young age then they could be missing a potential hobby for life. On a grander scale, every top professional had to start somewhere; a large percentage of the time experiencing the sport at an early stage and being inspired to improve and progress.
In years gone by schools have come down to the Leisure Centre and the children have gotten involved with learning the game and enjoying the sport. There are a number of ways that this could be achieved. If you work, or are involved with, a local school and would like to discuss the possibility of offering Squash to your pupils, please get in contact with our Head Coach: Chris Ogden – 07870735331 or email: email@example.com.
Initially we are looking to offer sessions to KS2 classes and above (up to sixth form). However, there is the possibility of offering the same opportunity to KS1 years should it be something the school is interested in.
Why Get Involved with Squash
- It has been voted the world healthiest sport!
- It is great for teaching children about movements, techniques and tactics.
- Big emphasis on Hand-eye co-ordination and judging both angles and trajectories.
- Hugely enjoyable and will provide a hobby for life that will keep them fit and healthy!
- Create links between local schools and leisure facilities that share a common goal of bettering and enriching a child’s childhood.
Nearly all schools offer Football, Cricket, Rugby and Netball. Very few can boast to being able to offer Squash. It is a bold project that we are confident can benefit all involved.
